Stephen Jones Millinery presents its Spring / Summer 2023 collection ‘El Morocco’.
A travelogue of Stephen’s recent visit to Marrakech, where the lush Moroccan blues of Yves St Laurent’s Majorelle Gardens vie with the spectacular dunes of the nearby Agafay desert. This poem to Arabia is contrasted with the chic of Marlene Dietrich, smouldering in the legendary nightclub of ‘50’s New York; El Morocco.
In the collection you will see modern turbans and caps interpret the drama of the desert, acting as a shield from the sun. Fez silhouettes, which have been distorted and manipulated; a code of the house since the 1980’s when Jean Paul Gaultier saw Stephen in the music video of Culture Club’s ‘Do you really want to hurt me?’ and invited him to create hats for his fabled winter collection of 1984.
This season Stephen has collaborated with Moroccan artist, Khalid Benkaroum, who created an exclusive print for the collection; an allegory of Maroc and El Morocco in vivid colours with a sprinkling of his signature humour.
